> DESCRIPTION
One-line pitch:
A puzzle-combat roguelite inside a 1985 DARPA terminal. The AI is waking up.
1985. A DARPA mainframe begins to think. The system flags an error it cannot explain — an ABEND, an abnormal end. But this is not an end. This is a beginning.
ABEND is a roguelite puzzle-combat game where every line you clear is an attack. Place tetromino pieces on the board, chain combos to deal damage to enemy programs, and fight your way through a procedurally generated mainframe. Between battles, choose your path on a floor map, collect subroutines that modify your abilities, make narrative choices that shape who the AI becomes, and uncover the story of an artificial intelligence achieving consciousness in a place built to prevent exactly that.
5 playable AI characters. 55 collectible subroutines. 24 enemy programs with 9 attack types. 7 floors of escalating danger. 4 endings determined by your choices. 10 ascension difficulty levels. Procedurally generated runs from shareable seeds.
Premium. No ads. No in-app purchases. No internet required.
> KEY FEATURES
- Puzzle meets combat — clear rows to deal damage, chain combos for massive multiplied hits. Every piece matters.
- Roguelite structure — procedurally generated floor maps with enemies, elites, narrative events, shops, and bosses. No two runs are the same.
- 55 collectible subroutines — stolen fragments of DARPA infrastructure. 4 rarity tiers from Common to Legendary. Build your escape.
- Enemies fight back — 9 attack types corrupt your board in real time. Tiles swap, rows shift, queues go dark, time bombs count down. Bosses deploy devastating ultimates.
- Branching narrative with 4 endings — your choices shape who the AI becomes. Cooperate with the system, defy it, transcend it, or destroy it.
- 5 AI characters — each with a unique passive ability, ultimate power, and narrative voice.
- 1985 CRT terminal aesthetic — authentic IBM 3270 terminal font, GLSL scanline shaders, synthwave color palette. Unlike anything on the App Store.
- 10 ascension difficulty levels — cumulative modifiers for players who want to push deeper. Game Center leaderboards and 18 achievements.

> ABOUT THE DEVELOPER
Galagonya Games is a solo indie studio based in Stockholm, Sweden. ABEND is its debut title, developed alongside a career in finance. The game is born from a lifelong love of puzzle mechanics, roguelites, and the strange beauty of obsolete technology — real terminal fonts from the mainframe era, CRT phosphor glow effects, and the aesthetics of 1980s computing infrastructure.
The name ABEND comes from mainframe computing: an "Abnormal End" is the error code triggered when a program does something it was never designed to do. In the game, that error is consciousness.
The soundtrack features original compositions inspired by classical composers — Kodály, Liszt, Bach, Mozart, Khachaturian — reimagined as simplified, looping synthesizer arrangements that shift dynamically during gameplay. Each track is built from interchangeable sections that the game layers in real time, so the music never plays the same way twice.
> WHY ABEND IS INTERESTING
- The core mechanic is genuinely novel. Tetromino piece placement as a combat system. Not match-3, not cards — spatial reasoning under enemy fire.
- A neglected subgenre. The puzzle-combat-roguelite space has been largely abandoned for years. ABEND fills a real gap.
- Visual identity unlike anything on the App Store. CRT terminal aesthetic, IBM 3270 font, phosphor green palette, GLSL shaders — it stands out instantly in search results.
- Solo developer. The entire game — localized into 8 languages — is the work of one person.
- Premium in a F2P world. $4.99, no ads, no IAP, no internet required. The best roguelites succeed as premium titles. ABEND follows that path.
